Lindsay Allan Cheyne

Founder, UCEP Bangladesh

He could have lived his life in his own country, New Zealand, Mr Cheyne thought differently and decided to dedicate his life to the welfare of the children of Bangladesh. He developed the project "UCEP" in 1972 aiming to provide basic education and training of working children but could not find donors for the project.

But he was determined, so he initiated the project with his own savings, involving 60 working children. This was the beginning of what would become one of the largest NGOs in Bangladesh, providing education and opportunities to hundreds of thousands of underprivileged children.

Mr. Cheyne's vision was simple yet powerful: every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic background. His dedication and perseverance laid the foundation for UCEP's growth into a nationwide organization.

Today, UCEP Bangladesh operates numerous educational institutions including UIST, continuing to fulfill Mr. Cheyne's dream of empowering children and youth through education and skills training.
